What is the advantage of .net over advance java

I just got my graduation in computer science, I need to know the importance of learning dot net before buying some books or joining a coaching class. I have been advised by my seniors and friends to learn asp.net as this seems to be a hot cake. Is it true that getting a job in this field is much easier than others?
